Up to Date Guide on How to Make a Living Writing
Six months after writing my last article, I’ve since quit my day job and am now living a freelance life. So if you want to make a living writing and creating content for the Internet, here’s what I know. It ain’t easy; it takes discipline, willpower, and a lot of luck. If you’re looking for some motivation though, my journey is definitely worth following.
How do I Turn my Writing into a Career?
The main thing you need to understand is that it’s hard. Like, really (really) hard. You’re not going to be able to take your first step unless you’ve got some serious hustle in your heart. Nothing will come easy, but once you master the basic steps of “building an audience” and have a bit of self-promotion under your belt, you’ve got a real shot at success.

I can’t guarantee that it will happen quickly for you, but I do know that perseverance and hustle is the main ingredient for conquering this crazy world of content generation. It’s not going to be easy – that’s why only a few people make a good living off of it – but if you’re willing and able to do all that’s necessary, I’ve no doubt you’ll be successful.
How do you get paid to write?
You should never expect to get paid the day you sign up for a blog and start writing. It can take months before you even see your first dollar, so don’t write off other careers until you’ve mastered this one. Be patient and stick it out – or pick another path if required – but under no circumstances should you quit as soon as you hit your first road bump.

How do I get a Big Paying Job?
Writing for a big publication is a great way to make a living if you’re trying to turn writing into a career, but it’s not always easy to get in. First off, try contacting them directly with an original pitch of something they’ve never covered before. If that doesn’t work, post it on your blog and then try to get some traction through social media or guest blogging for other sites. Once you’ve got enough of an audience built-up (or if you know someone there already), write another awesome pitch and tell them why they should hire you over anyone else.

How do I start content writing from home?
Find websites that are willing to pay good rates for content. Then, write a lot of it. Write about anything and everything you can think of because the best way to improve your writing is by doing it as often as possible. The better you get at this, the more money you’ll make. It’s not easy work – I know I’ve got the battle scars to prove it – but if you stick with it and hone your craft, it can become a very rewarding career. I recommend writing for at least five hours every day to jump-start this process.
Step-By-Step Guide on How to Make a Living Writing
Step 1: Create an Awesome Portfolio
One of the best ways to get high rates is by having a pristine portfolio, but it doesn’t always happen overnight. The key is to start early and make sure you have at least 20 great samples to show potential clients/employers what you can do. This will not only make them more likely to work with you, but it’ll also help you determine your style of writing. Once that’s done, create a website that contains all your samples, contact information, and any other content you’d like potential clients to see.
Step 2: Get Your Name Out There by Guest Posting for Other Blogs
It’s not easy to start making money right away because there are literally thousands who are looking for the same position as you, so make sure you put yourself out there as much as possible. The easiest way to do this is by guest posting for other blogs around the web. Write three posts about anything related to the topic that they’re covering and then send them an email telling them what you did. Here are some tips on how to get your article accepted when guest posting.

Step 3: Start Marketing Yourself
Once you start writing for other people, it’s time to start marketing yourself. The easiest way to do this is by updating social media with all the content you’ve created, talking about what you’re working on, and getting in touch with any contacts that can help spread the word. Linkedin is a great tool for networking because it allows you to connect with potential employers or collaborators without even meeting them in person.
This makes it easier to find work within your industry since they’ll be able to see how well connected you are before deciding whether or not they want to work with you. It also helps if you attend some of the events around your area – especially if they’re related to the topic you write about.
Step 4: Get Real-World Experience by Freelancing for Bigger Brands
It’s not always easy to break into larger publications, but it helps if you have some real-world experience first. The best way to do this is by working as a freelancer for big companies that are looking for work online. This will give them an idea of what your writing abilities are like since they have no other option than to trust your samples. Once that happens, it’ll be easier for them to hire you on full-time because they’ll know what kind of content you produce (and how well you can create it). Just make sure not to sell yourself short by charging ridiculously low rates – aim to make at least $100 per article and hope they go up from there.
Step 5: Create a Blog That is Proven to Drive Traffic and Conversions
The most successful content marketers around the web know how important it is to look for ways that will boost your traffic and conversions. If you’re not able to do this, then you’ll never become one of the best in your industry. It’s all about testing what type of articles work best for your audience (and what doesn’t).

Some popular types include listicles, how-to articles, infographics, interviews, videos, questions/answer sessions with readers, behind-the-scenes sneak peeks into companies or celebrities’ personal lives – just anything that adds value in a real way. Once you find that, market your content on social media to get visitors coming through your site in order to determine how well it performs. That is the only way you’ll be able to help improve your bottom line in the future.
Step 6: Always Aim To Help Your Readers
The reason why most people fail is that they feel like they have to put themselves out there in order to become famous or wealthy with their writing abilities. The best marketers are never afraid of reaching out to others and helping them achieve what they’re trying not only to improve their lives, but somebody else’s as well. When it comes down to it, this is what makes a writer worth reading about – the ability to create something that will influence others for generations to come.
